Dining at Cantref

Breakfast is served either in your rooms or in the dining area from 8.00am onwards. You can let our staff know your preferences with a choice of porridge, cereals, fruits, toast, poached egg, tea, coffee, juice.

Our dining area is an array of four tables with comfy seating that is next to our kitchen serving area. Lunch is served at 12.30pm and food menus consist of typically home cooked food such as steak and ale pie, casseroles, cooked dinners twice a week and fish on a Friday. We incorporate celebratory meal days such as Burns Night, St David’s, Valentines and Easter wherever possible and should you recommend an old favourite that we have not thought of, you would be welcome to add it in to our repertoire. Ensure you/your family inform us of your likes and dislikes so we can organise alternatives on the day.

Menus are important in ensuring we cater for varied tastes, which is why we try to refresh the six-week menu as much as we can and take advantage of seasonal fruits and vegetables. In the summer time Gelato, Eton Mess, Roulade’s, Cheesecakes, go down a treat in the sunshine. In the winter, we change the menu options to ones that are warmer and best received when the weather is cold outside.

Tea-time is from 5.00pm onwards and there is typically a hot choice option and a cold choice option. Whilst each of our daily menus do have some structure this is so that we can place our orders with our local butchers and other suppliers timely, however, it is not set in stone. Supper sandwiches or toast is provided with a nice hot drink of choice after 8.00pm.

Our residents are regularly weighed and diets are changed to coincide with any weight loss or weight gain or for those who may find eating more of a challenge. Fluid intake is monitored and cups of tea, coffee etc. are served regularly (with a non-obligatory biscuit of course…!)
